RPG endurance ?

Hey guys,

I'm Palteza from the DDE staff. We organize some endurance events, such as the 24h Road on TM², our most famous competition.

In February we'll run the 6h Mix event (tech - dirt - speed). Initially we (all) wanted to include RPG, but after really long discussions (believe me :shock: ), we won't for many reasons.

But I still wanna still honor the RPG community with an endurance event, I promised we would try something with RPG and endurance, and here I come :!:

I have few questions to start :
- do the community would like to drive such an endurance event ? I mean i'm ok to work on that but the support for this event must be real
- I think we should drive it on the RPG tittle pack to promote it, and because with so many mapping possibilities we can't go back to classic stadium, right ? For an exclusive event like this one, I think people will be ok to download the tittle pack
- is there a map builder (or maybe a collaboration) motivated for that task ? we still have to define the format of the map and its features, but it must be a map of 5 minutes minimum i think ?


Then we can share on the format of the competition and other "details" but 1st I would like to hear your 1st impressions.

Sounds like a nice idea, most rpg guys are into endurance and if you (dde) would host it, it could attract (hopefully) alot of people. We already hosted 1 endurance rpg race which didnt end up nicely, mostly because of the map choice iirc, hosted in tmnf.

I really like the idea of hosting it on rpg title pack so it gets some more attention and if there is a decent mapper/s for it, i can see it turn out nicely.

In case of map length i would say 5 min is fine unless you wanted to make it 24h^^

Yeah with the 24h editions and a couple of other events people know we are serious, so a certain amount of players would be also attracted on RPG ... at least I hope too :mrgreen: nah but yeah this is sure !

Every endurance maps must be really well thought and built, but especially in RPG ! I can easily imagine how a bad map for endurance can be received by the players :o , especially considering the main part won't be RPG experts (so the difficulty can't be high)
We'll have to define exactly what we want (and what we don't want), so that the mapper can't go full yolo and ruin the event :D

5 minutes is a nice target to my mind.
I wouldn't see a 24h RPG event, but more something like a 4 or 6 hours with teams of 2 players.
Or you think we should go for a solo competition, like 2h solo ? I know building a team is more complicated, especially when it will concern a RPG event (you have to imagine how the non-RPG players will be organized).
Every team competitions has my favours, but if we'll only have few teams, this must be really well considered.
I would try a team event though, but you'll tell me your opinion.

i like the idea, according to all the good maps on the server is getting boring after some time and events are welcome from my side since it differs from the usual habbits on the server.

a completely new map for this event will be much fun :D btw if you gonna to make a teammode, you could also play in chase e.g :D just to think of :)

a minimum of 10 players will always be on the server if an event is placed, so i think those events are always good :) even though on this are not so many players for the rpg-titlepack

if you going to try a classic rpg event, you can ask tm1 mappers for the event and then ask for a tm2 convertation (including the mod, i would say). then you can play without the rpg-titlepack, otherwise it will be hard to find classic rpgs or to play on the stadium-titlepack in tm2.

i don't know if i am the right man, because i prefer my own style most and i like to build on my own tempo :) you will see if somebody is interested for this job

I don't think chase suits to rpg style. Waiting someone, in a competition (even if we take it funny, most of the people like to be competitive), can be very frustrating. Maybe for RPG specialists it would be fun for sure, but you have to imagine people not used to drive on RPG.
And btw for team competition or not, i was asking you all, maybe it would be safer to do a solo one. But the main interest of our plugin is that it can set team rankings easily. Really, I dunnow between both options.

I hope we would make more than 10 players damn :!: :lol: . We use to communicate very well about our competitions, more and more people follow our events, so you can expect way more players :!: ... I can't promise a hundred, they won't be here :mrgreen: , but more than 10 of course :!:

That's on this point you guys must tell me what if possible or not in order to have, both as many players as we can and the best experience possible on RPG.
Explain me more precisely your option, i don't get everything. What is "the mode" if it's not the tittle-pack ?
The goal would be also to promote the RPG title-pack, but I dunnow, you guys must tell me what you want : promotion for the tittle-pack with less players or a "classic" rpg experience with more plaeyrs ?
This competition is also dedicated to you, so tell me your feelings ...

I don't think there are better styles than others, they are just different. It's quite subjective, especially in RPG.
The main thing is to build not a hard track, since the goal is to attract players not driving regularly on this enviro. This is the most important point to respect to my mind. Then you can build your way. And if you're speaking about time with "your own tempo", things are not urgent at all. To tell you, I think I would start to launch the preparation of the cup when the map is well finished, because this is the hardest task on the list. But there are few points to respect, we can try to list :
- not a hard track, at least there always must be an easy way for the rpg noobs (so you can put some alternative hard/easy ways for pro/noobs)
- multilap track
- the 1st CP must be far from the start (to avoid the cheat "delete and always drive only the 1st CP")
